Revitalize the Roots: Bikaptorois

This groundbreaking program focuses on preserving and revitalizing the cultural heritage of the Endorois people in Kenya. Since 2023, the program has been working tirelessly to digitally preserve the Endorois' cultural heritage and ancestral knowledge, promote intergenerational knowledge sharing.

The program empowers Endorois youth by providing structured training, mentorship, and digital resources to help them preserve their cultural heritage. Over 60+ youth participants are involved in recording and protecting the indigenous ecological knowledge of 40+ Endorois elders, aged 60-100, from the Nakuru, Lake Bogoria, and Mochongoi areas.

Historical Context:
In 1973, the Endorois people were displaced from their ancestral lands without consent to create the Lake Bogoria National Reserve. This violation, combined with climate change, has deeply impacted their cultural and spiritual livelihoods.

This is the first cultural heritage program of this scale this kind for kind for the Endorois Peoples. This project will create sustainable resources and community momentum to record and apply Endorois knowledge systems.

This project is currently still active.
